The Research Group on Combating Human Trafficking was established on 6 December 2021 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Pécs with the support of the Dutch police, the Embassy of Hungary in The Hague and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Budapest. The main objective of the research group is to conduct innovative research to support the work of law enforcement authorities in the fight against human trafficking.
Since its creation in 2021, the research group has been involved in a number of projects. As part of this, it has participated in more than five conferences, several of which it has organised. It is a member of a consortium of research groups in Europe working on the same topic and has been the organiser of the Escapetruck - an interactive crime prevention tool in Hungary on three occasions. In addition to these activities, the research group places great emphasis on liaising and collaborating with professionals. Through its projects, it has worked with NGOs and the police on several occasions.
The research group is led by Dr. Ágoston Mohay, habilitated associate professor, deputy dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Pécs, Jorn van Rij, chief expert of the Dutch police and Dr. István Szijártó, assistant lecturer of the Faculty of Law of the University of Pécs.
